Netcraft measure and makes available the response times of fifty leading hosting providers' sites The performance measurements are made at fifteen minute intervals from four separate points around the internet, and averages are calculated over the immediately preceding 24 hour period.
A summary showing the ten providers whose sites experienced the fewest failed requests and the fasest connection times during June is shown above. 31 of the 50 providers went through the month without suffering an outage.
Both New York Internet and above.net sites were faultless throughout the month, the only failed requests to their sites resulting from equipment failure in Level 3's London datacenter, where one of our measurement points is placed. On average New York Internet had faster connection times than above.net; however one of our measurement points is located at nyi.net, so this was to be expected.
Intriguingly, all of the Top 5 placed sites run the FreeBSD operating system, but in other respects the Top 10 come from all segments of the industry from shared hosting through to high end colocation services.
Fuller information on the measurement process and current measurements are available.
