Netcraft measure and makes available the response times of fifty two leading hosting providers’ sites The performance measurements are made at fifteen minute intervals from four separate points around the internet, and averages are calculated over the immediately preceding 24 hour period.
A summary showing the ten providers whose sites experienced the fewest failed requests and the fasest connection times during July is shown above.
The difference in performance between the leading sites is very small, with the top site having just one fewer failed request during the month than the second - sixth placed sites.
Following June, when the top five hosting company sites with fewest failed requests were all running FreeBSD, FreeBSD is again disproportionately represented at the top of the table with five of the top 10 and seven of the top 13 sites running that operating system, but in other respects the Top 10 again come from all segments of the industry from shared hosting through to high end colocation services.
Four companies’ sites - Cable and Wireless, Pair Networks, New York Internet and about.com were placed in the Top 10 during both June and July.
