Most Reliable Hosting Providers during February

Ranking by Failed Requests and Connection time,
February 1st - 29th 2004

During February both the Pair Networks and Seeweb sites were faultless with no failed requests at all from any of our five measurement points.

As neither Pair or Seeweb had any failed requests, Pair is ranked above Seeweb because the average connection time from our performance measurment points to the Pair site was faster. Pair Networks is located in Pittsburgh and is geographically much closer than Seeweb to our measurement points, four of which are in the US.

The top 10 places were evenly spread amongst operating systems, with three running FreeBSD, three on Linux, and two each running Solaris and Windows, while four of the top ten hosting company sites are European.

The number of failed requests to hosting company sites was up significantly on January, with the Internet subject to variations of MyDoom throughout much of the month. For comparison, during February Demon Internet was placed 10th with .04% of requests to failing. During January a hosting company site with .04% of requests failing would have been placed 16-17th.

Netcraft measure and makes available the response times of fifty leading hosting providers’ sites. The performance measurements are made at fifteen minute intervals from four separate points around the internet, and averages are calculated over the immediately preceding 24 hour period.

Fuller information on the measurement process and current measurements are available.
