Returning to the top spot for the fourth time this year was Datapipe, without a single failed request, and an average connection time of just 0.012 seconds. Datapipe has managed to feature in the top ten for seven out of eight months so far this year and has maintained a 100% uptime record over the past ten years. In July, Datapipe announced an expansion of its presence in Europe with the opening of a new data centre in Moscow, becoming its 21st data centre worldwide.
In second place with just two failed requests was EveryCity, ranking in the top ten for a third consecutive month, and making its fourth appearance in the top ten this year. Based in London, EveryCity specialises in managed cloud hosting, and has maintained a 100% uptime over the last 6 months.
Third place this month goes to Qube Managed Services, who narrowly beat CWCS with the same number of failed requests but faster connection time. Placing in the top ten for the third month in a row, Qube has data centres in London, New York, and Zurich, offering cloud services, managed services, and colocation.
Linux continues to be the predominantly used operating system, powering six of the top ten company sites. However for the first time since June 2015, one of the top 10 was running on Windows.
Netcraft measures and makes available the response times of around forty leading hosting providers' sites. The performance measurements are made at fifteen minute intervals from separate points around the internet, and averages are calculated over the immediately preceding 24 hour period.
From a customer's point of view, the percentage of failed requests is more pertinent than outages on hosting companies' own sites, as this gives a pointer to reliability of routing, and this is why we choose to rank our table by fewest failed requests, rather than shortest periods of outage. In the event the number of failed requests are equal then sites are ranked by average connection times.
